Tomcat install problems
I am having trouble getting Tomcat to run. When I run startup.sh, I get
this.
/usr/local/jakarta-tomcat/bin# ./startup.sh
Guessing TOMCAT_HOME from tomcat.sh to ./..
Setting TOMCAT_HOME to ./..
cd ./..
Using classpath:
.:./../lib/ant.jar:./../lib/jasper.jar:./../lib/servlet.jar:./.
./lib/test:./../lib/webserver.jar:./../lib/xml.jar:/usr/bin/../lib/tools.jar
CC889767-C:/usr/local/jakarta-tomcat/bin# Can't find class
org.apache.tomcat.sta
rtup.Tomcat
I am guessing it is something with my paths, but I can't figure out what.
Thanks!
Jeff

try this:
edit tomcat.sh
put :
TOMCAT_HOME=/<where-you-put-it/jakarta-tomcat-bin/
instead of
TOMCAT_HOME=/<where-you-put-it/jakarta-tomcat/

Regarding your install problems, I recently wrote to someone else the
following, and he verified that that worked OK for him as well. I should
put it on my yet-to-be-dedicated-to-Tomcat website. ;-)
Enjoy...
I have noticed that startup guesses "TOMCAT_HOME" so you have to go back one
directory and run:
"bin/startup.sh"
Some much better changes I did (to get the thing to run from anywhere,
including at startup time from a script) were to edit "tomcat.sh" (which
you'll note both startup.sh and shutdown.sh refer to):
Near the top of the file, add a line:
TOMCAT_HOME=/<where-you-put-it/jakarta-tomcat/
Where it sets JAVACMD based on which, I substitute:
JAVACMD=/mypathto/jdk1.2/bin/java
Seems to work for me.
