LockServlet.war
Thomas,
I'm doing some testing for the distributed caching stuff and I'm trying
to find the best strategy for using the LockServlet in a J2EE
environment. Basically I'm trying to decide whether it is better to
integrate the servlet directly into the existing servlet framework, or
deploy the LockServlet separately.
Thoughts?
Jason

Hi Jason,
During a typical ODMG session there will be thousands of calls to the
LockServlet.
The faster each call is handled, the faster the whole ODMG app will run.
So the overall rule is to make the locking calls as local as possible!
If all your servlets are running within one JVM it is much faster to use
the inmemory lockmap instead of the lockservlet.
If your servlets are running in different JVMs you have to use the
LockServlet. If integrating the servlet directly into your existing
servlet framework can reduce calls across the network this will be
beneficial for the overall performance.
But this depends a lot on your overall architecture (number of physical
server nodes, number of J2EE container instances).
cheers,
Thomas
