[DISCUSS] Push RC for Gora 0.3

Hi All,
It came to me last night...
Why don't we just push Gora 0.3 RC right now?
We could wait another while until all of the issues with GORA-174 are
ironed out. This should not prevent us from releasing Gora trunk. In my
opinion Gora trunk is certainly stable enough to be released. It is also
good that we already know what is in the next development drive. Should we
need to release a point oh oh release to pick up something we missed in
0.3, then I can push this as well no bother at all.
I am easily able to do this if I get the thumbs up from a PMC perspective.
I actually think it would be something really productive and beneficial for
us.
Thanks, have a great weekend.
Lewis

Hey Chris, thanks for the clarification. Yeah, sorry about using word
"vote".

I meant to ask Alfonso about potential blocker other than GORA-174 to
release 0.3 RC.

Hi Mattmann,
Perfect :)
I took for granted that it was going to be created since I have no actual
formal proofs :P
I would want to clarify that I was not veting. In fact, I never knew I had
that possibility (and if I have it, I read and I ignored that).

Thanks!

Hi Lewis,

+1 from me as well
I know there are several things within GORA-174 but I think we should
consider issue priorities for releases. I mean we started GORA-174 for
patching NUTCH-1477 and IMHO we have accomplished that. Sure there are
a lot of new features related to GORA-174, but we should keep on
moving (:

Hi Renato,

I appreciate your willingness. I will study it close to see if I find
reasons to propose something for Gora 0.4 :)
So, finally this gets out of this discussion :)

Thanks!

I am a +1 with Alfonso in discussing Gora-103, there are somethings
that seemed like a good idea at the time, but I was developing some
simple tests and there are just something within it that I am not sure
how to address nor solve.
Maybe we can put it as blocker for Gora 0.4 Alfonso? so we don't
forget about it (:

Hi, Henry.

It's related to design introduced in that patch and some implications. I
have to study it close :\
I am already convinced that it is not important for this discussion ;P

Hi Alfonso,

Thanks for clarifying it.

But Gora-103 is for dynamo-db module isnt it:
https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/GORA-103

It has and passes the latest unit tests.

Re: [DISCUSS] Push RC for Gora 0.3

Hi, Henry.

It's all regarding to the state after GORA-103, but I have to analyze
further and deeper to show points of discussion :\ I found a change in
architecture that really does not convince me at all (I had problems mergin
Pig module from 0.2.1 that put me in that trail).
Sadly, fully write a proof takes time and I am a slow man :P. Since my "-1"
really does not affect the poll, never mind :)
I will write that all later :\

Another point is things like the lack of documentation, formal definition
of mappings, etc... maybe that can go for later versions.
By now I only have the reason of being conservative (yeah, I am much about
software), since I don't have prepared arguments (more thant intuition) :\
If someone is really interested, I can dedicate special and precious time
to investigate it (hope my friends and relatives will not kill me ;).

With Renato this is a +3.
Your vote?

Best,

Alfonso Nishikawa

Hi Alfonso,

What are the blockers for the -1 vote for releasing 0.3 RC? I know GORA-174
is important but is it blocker for Nutch integration?

Hi Guys,

This isn't a VOTE it's a discussion. Furthemore, we can't VETO (-1)
intent :) This is a discussion of an *intent* to make an RC.

If Lewis gets around to it, throws it up, the RC is subject to
procedural, majority rules VOTE'ing.

I think Alfonso is just expressing his desire that he would like
to comment on something RE: the RC. So please Alfonso, send in
your comments, but Lewis is also free (as is anybody) to create an
RC -- then -- when a VOTE is called, that's a VOTE :)

Cheers,
Chirs

Hi Lewis,

+1 !!!

"Release early. Release often."
(Eric S. Raymond - The Cathedral and the Bazaar)

I think thats absolutly true and helps a lot, e.g. for getting more
feedback from the community.
