GitHub notifications to a special mailing list (was: How do I unsubscribe from wicket, please?)

Hi,

Some people complain that there is too much email traffic on dev@ due to
the GitHub notifications.

What do you think about creating a new mailing list, e.g. github@w.a.o ?
This could be easily done via .asf.yaml
Any objections ?

Regards,
Martin

Yes, those emails are sent by GitHub to dev@.
To unsubscribe from dev@ please follow the instructions at http://wicket.
apache.org/help/email.html#dev
I will see moving these notifications to a specialized list instead of dev@.

Hello Max,

to unsubscribe please send a short email to
dev-unsubscribe@wicket.apache.org
then confirm :)
(same suffix for users@maven.apache.org)

Re: GitHub notifications to a special mailing list (was: How do I unsubscribe from wicket, please?)

Posted by Max Calderoni <ma...@gmail.com>.
Hi Martin,
thanks for your efforts here in addressing my request for unsubscribing,
but it did not work: I keep receiving emails from Wicket through dev (
dev@wicket.apache.org) and users (users@maven.apache.org).

Obviously I can block from gmail, so, this is not really a big problem, but
I thought I mentioned, because you and maintainers at infra may want to
know.

The problem in blocking of course is that I would be afraid to block on my
end emails that maybe in the future I will like to get again, but I will
not, because I will have forgotten I blocked them... Also, it should be
simple to unsubscribe - I am sure you would agree.

In any case, in a couple of days if I keep receiving emails I will put a
block, but if you perhaps wanted help in "debugging" this, for example by
asking me if I keep receiving or whatever you may need to know on my end,
please go ahead, I won't mind, I will be glad to help.

Best,
Max

OK. I've used commits@.
Let's see. We can create a new address later if needed.

Re: GitHub notifications to a special mailing list (was: How do I unsubscribe from wicket, please?)

My only problem with using commits@ is that both GitBox and GitHub will
send the same mails to the same list for the commits.

GitHub also sends emails for discussions in PRs. Those are useful in dev@
but some people complain about them.

Hi,

I agree the mail spams the list a bit and it makes sense to send it
somewhere else, but doesn't it belong in commits@w.a.o?
