When a user first joins an Meeting Room, they are presented with two screens asking about Audio/Video hardware, can these be combined into one screen.
Hi,
When a user first joins an Meeting Room, they are presented with two
screens both asking about Audio/Video hardware, can these be combined
into one screen, please.
Users find it frustrating and very confusing when they first join in a
OpenMeetings Meeting Room because they are presented with two similar
but different screens (I know I have been trying to introduce several
people to OpenMeetings). I do like the option of being able to "not
show these again".
What I would suggest is that only the device selection screen appears.
For Audio a "Microphone Test" toggle button be there with a microphone
level meter for the test.
For video, 1) since the video camera drop down list detects if there is
a video camera, then why not only give the users the "video options" to
select from if they have a video camera,
2) if they select a video camera, load up a second floating "video"
window to the side which shows the video at the resolution that they
select, if they select a different resolution then change the video
window to that resolution, this way they can see the effect/size of
their video resolution selection. After all in the current system, once
they have chosen their devices they are given a video window anyway, why
not a bit earlier so that can interactively select an appropriate
resolution. Currently I see people either select a too small resolution
or a too large resolution as they have no idea how it will look.
Please let me know what you think about this suggestion and if it is
feasible.

Apologies for the confusion. Is it possible to have the two dialog
boxes you mentioned, the "1) There is the Audio / Video test" and the
"choose your audio / video device settings" dialog box changed to be one
dialog box?
You are most likely so familiar with OpenMeetings you do not see this as
a problem, but the number of first time users who come into OpenMeetings
who get confused is amazing.
If people don't like my suggestion, then don't bother about it. But
then could I ask that the "Start recording" button text be changed to
something like "Start test recording" or "Start Recording Test", as I
often get asked what does this mean. And I know the screen is well
documented, but the new users still get confused.
I think the text is "1316, recording flag, Start recording", but I
think this text is also used for other "Start recording" buttons, so if
I change this text to "Start recording test", then other buttons in
OpenMeetings will be labelled wrong ?

I don't understand this request.
There are no identical boxes.
1) There is the Audio / Video test where you can record 5 seconds of
video and playback (this pops up even before entering the room)
2) There are the device settings to choose your audio / video device
settings
=> Both boxes have on the bottom a checkbox already "do not ask again".
=> In the roomtype restricted the (2) popup will not popup
=> In the room configuration you can disable the popup (1)
I don't think that there is something to do here.
As for the resolution: You always can re-start your audio/video by
clicking on the re-sync icon and choose different settings and restart
the publishing.

Step1 - Get required Software
To develop OpenMeetings you need at least:
Eclipse in a up to date copy and Sun JDK6 (used Deiban packages for Sun JDK and Eclipse)
Apache ANT (minimum) 1.8.3 (installed)
Subclipse 1.8 (Subversion 1.7 required!) http://subclipse.tigris.org/ (Subclipse would not install into Eclipse due to issues with dependices, which I was not able to successful install either)
SVN Command line client (Subversion 1.7 required!) http://subversion.apache.org/packages.html
Spring IDE for Eclipse (installable via Help > Eclipse Marketplace) (no such menu option existed, or could I find a market place)
MySQL (or Postgres, or other Databases supported by Hibernate) are optionally but handy to have them
Adding a new software site
There are several different ways to add a software site to the list of sites that are used when browsing available software and checking for updates. You must know the Web Site location (URL) of the site that you want to add. To add the site, use one of the following procedures:
* Add a new site using the Install/Update > Available Software Sites preference page.
1. Click the Add... button.
2. Type a name into the Name text box.
3. If the software site is located on the web, type the Web Site location (URL) of the site into the Location text box. You may also paste or drag and drop a URL from a web browser into this text box.
4. If the software site is in your local file system (including a CD), click Local... to specify the directory location of the site.
5. If the software site is in your local file system but is packaged as a jar or zip file, click Archive... to specify the name of the file.
* Drag and drop the site URL from a browser into one of the following locations:
1. The Work With combo box or the software list on the first page of the Install New Software wizard.
2. The Available Software Sites preference page.
3. The Location text field in the Add Site... dialog.

It's been a long time since I've used eclipse on linux.
However, I would recommend that you download eclipse instead of using the one provided by your OS, the same goes with the java jdk (use the one from sun), and ant (download it from apache). Everything can be put in /opt
Then you can install the subclipse plugin from within eclipse gui, to get the svn features.

which I have now set to “SVNKit (Pure Java) SVNKit v1.7.0 SNAPSHOT”
to resolve
I get “Error (100 of 125 items), mostly because “Project ‘Openmeetings’ is
missing required library: ‘build/lib/…” where … is a listing of about 100
*.jar files.
you need to run
ant -Ddb=mysql prepare-eclipse
(if your DB==mysql)

Hi Max,
I was not able to install “Subversion Revision Graph”, “Subclipse Integration for Mylyn 3.x (Optional)”, but I did install the other items.
You said “set "java only" in Preferences->Team>SVN”, but I cannot find such a selection?
Under Window->Preference->Team there is a “Perspective:” set to “Team Synchronizing” while there is also a “Java” option, but I don’t think this is what you mean.
Under Window->Preference->Team->SVN there is a “SVN interface”, “Client:” which I have now set to “SVNKit (Pure Java) SVNKit v1.7.0 SNAPSHOT”, it was JavaLH (JNI) Not Available”.
I then ran “File”, “Import”, selected “SVN”, “Checkout Projects from SVN”, Next
Entered https://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/incubator/openmeetings/trunk/singlewebapp/
Followed the prompts and selected “Finish”.
But now I get “Error (100 of 125 items), mostly because “Project ‘Openmeetings’ is missing required library: ‘build/lib/…” where … is a listing of about 100 *.jar files. However I am looking around in the Openmeetings code and searching for objects, methods, etc.
What I current want to achieve is to learn what code is required to let the Whiteboard’s zoom feature be available to meeting participants who have not been given any privileges (e.g. “Draw on Whiteboard privileges” ), and while I don’t quite know what I am doing in Eclipse, I think that for a start I want to find the code which is in “WhiteboardObject.java” line 83 “public void setZoom(Integer zoom) {“
WhiteboardManagement.java, line 289 “whiteBoardObject.setZoom((Integer) actionObject.get(2));
UpdateWhiteboardObject
Err, well I think I am somewhat off track. Eclipse is great, but I have a lot of learning in Eclipse, Java and Openmeetings before I can be of much use with the code.

However, I would recommend that you download eclipse instead of using the one provided by your OS, the same goes with the java jdk (use the one from sun), and ant (download it from apache). Everything can be put in /opt

Sadly I did not get far following the instructions at

Step1 - Get required Software
To develop OpenMeetings you need at least:
Eclipse in a up to date copy and Sun JDK6 (used Deiban packages for Sun JDK and Eclipse)
Apache ANT (minimum) 1.8.3 (installed)
Subclipse 1.8 (Subversion 1.7 required!) http://subclipse.tigris.org/ (Subclipse would not install into Eclipse due to issues with dependices, which I was not able to successful install either)
SVN Command line client (Subversion 1.7 required!) http://subversion.apache.org/packages.html
Spring IDE for Eclipse (installable via Help > Eclipse Marketplace) (no such menu option existed, or could I find a market place)
MySQL (or Postgres, or other Databases supported by Hibernate) are optionally but handy to have them
Adding a new software site
There are several different ways to add a software site to the list of sites that are used when browsing available software and checking for updates. You must know the Web Site location (URL) of the site that you want to add. To add the site, use one of the following procedures:
* Add a new site using the Install/Update > Available Software Sites preference page.
1. Click the Add... button.
2. Type a name into the Name text box.
3. If the software site is located on the web, type the Web Site location (URL) of the site into the Location text box. You may also paste or drag and drop a URL from a web browser into this text box.
4. If the software site is in your local file system (including a CD), click Local... to specify the directory location of the site.
5. If the software site is in your local file system but is packaged as a jar or zip file, click Archive... to specify the name of the file.
* Drag and drop the site URL from a browser into one of the following locations:
1. The Work With combo box or the software list on the first page of the Install New Software wizard.
2. The Available Software Sites preference page.
3. The Location text field in the Add Site... dialog.

Hi,
I have downloaded and installed "Build #68", however the "Combine device
settings and audio/video test in single UI" does not seem to be part of
this build ?
At this time only the "Choose devices" dialog box is showing. To be
honest, I do not mind this configuration, if it is to be the new way.
How is OpenMeeting behaving for you?
The video Window has orange top and bottom boarders.

I very much like the new "Choose device" window, but does anyone have
the issue that if you have the "Do not ask again" check box option
enabled, then window stays up in the top of the screen and does not
slide down, thus the window is barely visible? Of course this is
confusing for any users.
I am able to select the bottom of the "Choose device" window and drag it
down so I can access it.
The "Do not ask again" check box seems to be altering the behaviour of
the "Choose device" window.

Regarding the proposal to combine the device settings and the audio video
test into a single UI:
I've committed a change that should realize that (see:
https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/OPENMEETINGS-258)
The change does also include to see the selected resolution in the recorded
5-sec test as preview.

I don't understand this request.
There are no identical boxes.
1) There is the Audio / Video test where you can record 5 seconds of video
and playback (this pops up even before entering the room)
2) There are the device settings to choose your audio / video
=> Both boxes have on the bottom a checkbox already "do not ask again".
=> In the roomtype restricted the (2) popup will not popup
=> In the room configuration you can disable the popup (1)
I don't think that there is something to do here.
As for the resolution: You always can re-start your audio/video by clicking
on the re-sync icon and choose different settings and restart the
publishing.
