Tomcat Win stdErr

 
I am using JNI code to access some C code.
Something is going wrong and Tomcat dies. I know this sounds very vague.
 
it happens on Win2k, and I see very briefly some messages in the Tomcat
startup cmd window.
But I can't find it anywhere in a log or error file.
 
Where does the System.err. go ? 
 
Also what are valid debug levels
