A binary distribution of the Merlin 3.0 Release Candidate 1 is now
available.

  http://www.ibiblio.org/merlin/distributions/3.0-RC1/

Documentation and tutorials are available for download at the above link
or online at:

  http://avalon.apache.org/sandbox/merlin/

This update includes a number of bug fixes to the 20030901 release,
improvements to exception handling for the TypeNotFound case, additional
i18n messages dealing with type related warning and errors, general
documetation updates, the addition of new tutorials dealing with
assembly strategies and alternatives, lots of javadoc updates, additions
to the bootstrap loader to support listing of the bootstrap classloader,
improvements to error messages related to block loading, enhanced
support for URL based loading of blocks, configurations and kernel
defintions, and simplification of the working home directory model.
Finally, this distibution removes SNAPSHOT dependencies and is linked to
the following release candidate distributions [1]:

  avalon-framework-4.1.5-RC3
  excalibur-configuration-1.1-RC1
  excalibur-i18n-1.1-RC1
  avalon-meta-1.1-RC1

Please note that the revision to the working directory may impact impact
applications that are using a home directory for registration of
persistent content. Under prior releases, the working directory path
was [root]/home/[partition]/[component-name]/. This has been changed to
[root]/[partition]/[component-name] where [root] is the value specified
under the -home command line parameter. If -home is not specified, the
default value of ${user.dir}/home is assumed.

Stephen.
