User permissions in Jackrabbit

Hello jackrabbit-dev.

Could you please tell are there available any _working_ implementation
of user permissions as described in JCR and allows to set permissions
for each node.

By the way if an application uses JCR repository how is it supposed to
manipulate user permissions? Is sticking to the particular
implementation the only possible option for "permission-intensive"
applications?
