Derby commit records are posted to derby-commits@db.apache.org

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1

Originally I thought commit records were supposed to go to
derby-dev@db.apache.org, but they are in fact going to
derby-commits@db.apache.org (you can find it at
http://nagoya.apache.org/eyebrowse/).

So, any thoughts on this? Should they continue to go to the separate
list? Or would people prefer they go to derby-dev? If everyone wants
to keep them on derby-commits, I'll add that mail list to
http://incubator.apache.org/derby/derby_mail.html .

Yes that's the place. The wording is

'The commit lists are where all cvs code commit messages are sent. All
committers are required to subscribe to this list so that they can stay
aware of changes to the repository.'

I read that as definitive, specifically '... ARE where ALL ...'.

Maybe an additional infomation is needed that says something like
'sub-projects can choose to send commit messages to the developer list
instead'.

I have seen no opinions expressed on this list that argue for changing
the existing setup. Everyone has stated a preference for the separate
list. --Unless I've missed any posts and feel free to point any out to

I personally would prefer the commit records on a separate list, for
ease of browsing the commits and to keep the noise down on derby-dev.

Plus, it looks like the Apache DB project suggests keeping separate
commit lists on the project guidelines:
http://db.apache.org/communication.html

While this doesn't appear to be strictly followed, maybe we can blaze a
trail for standards compliance in this area. ;-)

Anyway, that's my $.02,

andrew

Yes, apparently that change got dropped. But is there an action item, or
just leave it as it is?
