Avalon's role

Hello, folks!

I have been styding Cocoon documentation for a litte time.
As I've seen many classes expend Avalon's classes. What kind of roles has
Avalon into Cocoon project?

Cocoon is build on top of the Avalon framework, meaning that relative to 
Avalon it is a set of components that are managed by an Avalon container.
