In the "features" of Xerces docs, it says "This feature is relevant only when
the grammar is DTD".
"Ignorable whitespace" maps to the "element content whitespace" property of a
character information item in the XML Infoset [1]. This property has a "true"
value only when the containing element has "element content", as defined in a
DTD. This has nothing to do with Schema validaiton, which is why Schema never
marks an whitespace as "ignorable".
