I had used something like the following and it works fine for me.

         log4j.appender.R.DatePattern='.'yyyy-MM-dd'.log'



Also in another application where I had not used the Log4j.properties file,
I had entered this statement in my code.



appender1=new DailyRollingFileAppender(layout1,key1,".yyyy-MM-dd.'log'");



But in the later case, I got the file name as "sample.log.2006-07-01.log".
