[jira] [Created] (COUCHDB-3281) Syntax highlighting/multiline support for VDU in Fauxton

Gary Daigle created COUCHDB-3281:
------------------------------------

Summary: Syntax highlighting/multiline support for VDU in Fauxton
                 Key: COUCHDB-3281
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/COUCHDB-3281
             Project: CouchDB
          Issue Type: Improvement
          Components: Documentation, Fauxton
            Reporter: Gary Daigle

As a completely new user to CouchDB and Fauxton, I find this to be a massive usability issue. I was attempting to follow the guide section on validation and could not get Fauxton to accept my JSON as valid.

After reaching out on IRC, I found that I have to reduce all newlines from my Javascript VDU functions, and escape all quotes.

Multiline support and syntax highlighting works perfectly in Fauxton for view definitions, so why doesn't validation (also important) get the same treatment?

I find it absurd that the community has simply accepted the answer of "use a third party tool". This "solution" creates friction and confusion for new users, and should be considered unacceptable.
