Jacques Le Roux commented on INFRA-3211:
----------------------------------------

For the moment I removed the stable permsize. With Putty I was not able to have any numeric key in vi. I tried Terminal->Features, and checked "Disable application keypad mode" but it did not work. I will see that later. BTW could it be possible to have ofbiz user password? Then it will be far easier for me with WinSCP, notably to clean directories...

> There are plenty of examples (hs_err_pid.....log) at the root of both OFBiz demo servers. I don't think it's a swap space issue, maybe rather a memory issue (we are often running with only less than 100MB free when both instance are on for a moment). Another 500MB would help I guess, maybe there are better solutions though. We could also reduce the OFBiz memory footprints but I think we will then get heap spaces issues (permgen should be ok).
> Also if we could avoid spiders/robots to lurk it would be great...

Yes Thanks Ulrich,

I use that for my key, but I need to have the ofbiz user rights to change things in OFBiz demo... No idea why I have any numeric keys anymore (keypad and classic keyboard no longer working)?

------------------------------

You dont need an ofbiz password, you use sudo command to get to be that user -- 'sudo su - ofbiz' or 'sudo -s -u ofbiz -H' will get you there.

Regarding Putty, no idea why you have problems, I get in with it no problem.

Jacques Le Roux commented on INFRA-3211:
----------------------------------------

OK, I fixed my keypad issue using Putty Terminal->Features, and checking "Disable application keypad mode". It needs also to use Linux sequense set for the keyboard (by default I had ESC[~n mode) (found here http://www.linuxsa.org.au/pipermail/linuxsa/2002-August/044019.html).

Following Tony's recommendation on OFBiz private ML, I have changed the current setting to be just under 2.2GB. It's now:

trunk : java -Xms128M -Xmx896M -XX:MaxPermSize=384m -Dofbiz.admin.port=10523
stable (branch9): java -Xms128M -Xmx768M -Dofbiz.admin.port=20523

This should be ok as the default permsize for branch9 should work (I think it's 64MB on a server). We only began to get issues with branch10.

When later we will upgrade the stable demo to branch10 we will need to change to:

trunk : java -Xms128M -Xmx768M -XX:MaxPermSize=384m -Dofbiz.admin.port=10523
stable (branch10): java -Xms128M -Xmx768M -XX:MaxPermSize=256m -Dofbiz.admin.port=20523

It's still under 2.2GB and sets the possible max for the trunk

[jira] Updated: (INFRA-3211) OFBiz instances (both trunk ans stable) are often down

Jacques Le Roux updated INFRA-3211:
-----------------------------------

    Component/s: VMWare
    Description:
Since Ubuntu update (one/two month ago?) we experience much problems with OFBiz instances (both trunk and stable): they are often down. I had a look and found that it's not OFBiz related but due to the environment.

We get errors like

________________________________________________________________________________________
A fatal error has been detected by the Java Runtime Environment:

java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: requested 1073741840 bytes for Chunk::new. Out of swap space?

  Internal Error (allocation.cpp:215), pid=4901, tid=139855725569808
  Error: Chunk::new

 JRE version: 6.0_20-b02
 Java VM: Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (16.3-b01 mixed mode linux-amd64 )
An error report file with more information is saved as:
 /home/ofbiz/trunk/hs_err_pid4901.log

If you would like to submit a bug report, please visit:
   http://java.sun.com/webapps/bugreport/crash.jsp
________________________________________________________________________________________

Thank you in advance for your much appreciated help

Gavin commented on INFRA-3211:
------------------------------

Problem is you seem to be configuring your jvm settings incorrectly.

The VM is 2.5GB - more than emough for a couple of demos.

One is configured to have 1GB Xmx and 512MB MaxPermSize -- theres 1.5GB reserved right there.
The second is configured to have 762MB Xmx and 512MB MaxPermSize - theres another 1.2GB
Your JVM settings total 2.7GB - more than the memory of the VM itself, no wonder it is running out of real swap.

Please, reduce your demos to use MaxPermSize of 128MB each at most, that should be plenty.
You should also try reducing the 1GB Xmx to 762MB but see how reducing the MaxPermSize works first.

Gavin,

Yes I know for sudo and use it to edit files with vi in putty session. But today I got this issue (no numeric keys), I will see later. The idea was also that with a graphic UI it would be far easier for me to maintain the directories created by our users for their needs. Not a big deal anyway...

Thanks Gavin,

OK, I tried to have more memory :) What surprises me is it was working well before we updated the OS (2 months ago)

We really need 512MB for trunk permsize (OOTB it's set to 512MB) but not for current Stable (we don't see any value for permsize OOTB). I will try 128MB there. It will be 2.4GB at all and should be OK. In the future (next stable) we will try to use 256MB for each permsize.

Hi Gavin,

Today we got an error in the stable demo (branch9). Please see hs_err_pid3858. It's still

java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: requested 1073741840 bytes for Chunk::new. Out of swap space?

Could we try to increase the swap space? I had a look in OFBiz logs and can't find anything useful there.

Also I wonder if preventing robots to crawl could not help
