Impala relies on a number of external OS libraries for its operation.  This is particularly true in secure environments using kerberos.  when system calls are made to these third party packages and there is a problem or slowness with the call it can be extremely difficult to diagnose where the problem lies.  Placing some instrumentation around these calls would greatly reduce the time and effort required to pinpoint the source of the problem.
