impl\DOMConfigurationImpl.hpp(181) : error C2258: illegal pure syntax, must be '= 0'

           Summary: impl\DOMConfigurationImpl.hpp(181) : error C2258:
                    illegal pure syntax, must be '= 0'
           Product: Xerces-C++
           Version: Nightly build (please specify the date)
          Platform: PC
        OS/Version: Windows NT/2K
            Status: NEW
          Severity: Normal
          Priority: Other
         Component: DOM
        AssignedTo: xerces-c-dev@xml.apache.org
        ReportedBy: jeffreyr_97@yahoo.com

Night build 05/14/2003.
Using Win32 Debug MSDEV 6.0, Fixpack latest fixpack get, using
project/workspace, get a compilation error in
\xercesc\dom\impl\DOMConfigurationImpl.hpp.

Line 181.

    // The default values for the boolean parameters
    // from CANONICAL_FORM to WHITESPACE_IN_ELEMENT_CONTENT
    // 10010110010110 = 0x2596
    static const unsigned short fDEFAULT_VALUES = 0x2596;

Error is:

C:\xml-xerces\c\src\xercesc\dom\impl\DOMConfigurationImpl.hpp(181) : error
C2258: illegal pure syntax, must be '= 0'

This is because the compiler does not support in-place initialization of static
const integral member data as specified in the c++ standard.

To fix this you can do the following:

+ use enum instead of static const int
+ or instantiate the member outside the class.
