   @nealrichardson This is working now; here's the results from running on Debian Testing.
   
   ```
   > distro()
   $id
   [1] "debian"
   
   $version
   NULL
   
   $codename
   [1] "Debian GNU/Linux bookworm/sid"
   
   $short_version
   [1] "12"
   ```
   
   The reason that this didn't work properly last week (the values in `/etc/os-release` corresponded to the previous Debian version) was because the values in `/etc/os-release` are dependent on the [base-files](https://tracker.debian.org/pkg/base-files) Debian package, which wasn't updated until 22nd August.  After this date, spinning up a debian:testing docker container, and running `apt-get update` followed by `apt install base-files` updated the values in `etc/os-release` to the correct ones.
