Confused by the Number of Method Calls

I have a JSF page with the following tag:

<t:panelGroup id="panelHasIssuesAssigned" rendered="#{home.hasIssuesAssigned}">

Whether or not the panel is rendered is determined by a call to a method in the backing bean:
rendered="#{home.hasIssuesAssigned}"

When I trace the code path I see that this method is called four times.

Can anyone provide a clear explanation as to why this is so?
