Expanding functionalities

Hi All!

Correct me if I am wrong...
As far as I understood, when I want to expand any functionality of JMeter, I
need to write XML scritps.. Is that right?
One more thing... Can anyone come up with real examples for me?? Any kind of
scripts, and explaining how to make it work! So that it becomes familiar to
me!
