Apachecon EU Seville : Summary Update

Hi All

It was great to have yet another OFBiz track at Apachecon and also meet everyone in Seville. We chat and do a lot of work on our mailing lists but it is also nice to meet people in person.

This time my main task at Apachecon was booth duty and event support so I couldn't attend all the presentations in our track but I do have the attendance figures which I've put in brackets below.

- OFBiz +Modern UI (13)
- Collaborative Approach to Automated UI Testing (16)
- Introducing Plug In Manager (10)
- Data Extraction: How to get your data out of OFBiz (10)
- Screen Rendering in OFBiz (10)

As well as meeting some people I already knew, it was good to meet new ones. One highlight was meeting fellow OFBiz PMC member Bilgin Ibryam and also Gaurav Saini (son on Raj for those who remember him and his contributions to OFBiz) who gave a presentation about OFBiz and a Modern UI.

As usual whenever we get our community together we talk, so we held an informal brainstorming session on Wednesday evening and a mini OFBiz hackathon on Friday evening. I only partly attended the brainstorming but I have been given the whiteboard notes so will summarise them. I think there will probably be some ideas for discussion with the community.

We also connected with Paul King from the Apache Groovy project (Pierre \u2013 I think you might have introduced me to him in Budapest last year because he definitely looked familiar...). The Groovy track was on at the same time as the OFBiz one so a potential suggestion could be that future it might be good to see if both communities can liaise on the scheduling so we don't clash....

Being at an event like Apachecon gives me a very positive feeling as you see everyone else involved across a range of communities that are keen to learn and help. I think we received some potential offers of help especially on the UI / UX areas - all because of the track talks and interest.

Anyway all of those who attended Apachecon, please also feel free to add your comments and feedback about the event.

Thanks
Sharan

Hello Sharan and Everyone,

Not only was it a lot of fun, but we also came up with multiple cool ideas
to go back to the community with. Exciting times ahead for sure.

For all the new folks we got to know from ApacheCon please note we are
going through a big period of change and we would like to keep the momentum
going. We have a lot of work to do in many areas and we need all the help
we can get.

Cheers,

Taher Alkhateeb

Hello Sharan,

It was an awesome experience for me to meet everyone from OFBiz community. I
want to thank everyone for supporting me while my talk as a newbie and would
love to contribute further in the community.
I am really thankful to Raj (my father) as due to him I am able to learn and
come this far. He was one of the old users and contributor of OFBiz.

I would love to explore more towards UI and javascript help/tasks that might
be on JIRA to move forward. I will make sure that i am active on mailing
lists and contribute in best possible way.

Thanks
Gaurav
