I had seen a preview of the subject book. A full version is now available for free download this week, at <https://www.sig.eu/en/building-maintainable-software/>.  It is not necessary to register or join a mailing list unless you wish too.

I'm passing this along as a matter of general interest.  Dealing with maintenance of an existing large code base such as that for OpenOffice is an entirely different matter and not part of the coverage of this book.
