Xalan C++ sample ExternalFunction does not link in Release mode.

I tried compiling and linking the ExternalFunction sample provided with Xalan 
C++ 1.2. Compiler: MSVC6.0+SP3+Dinkumware. Xalan build: xml-
xalan_20011101231715.tar.gz. Xerces build: 1.5.2.

This error occurs in Release mode:
