Problems running a servlet

Dear Reader,

I'm trying to run a servlet within an Apache-Tomcat configuration. Apache and Tomcat are running fine. The example servlets delivered with Tomcat are running all ok. I added my servlet (it runs fine under JServ) and now I've a strange behaviour. When I try to start the servlet I have to login several times in the web server before I receive a blank page, yep - no error message at all. And that's certainly not the behaviour of my servlet. I checked all the different log files and found an interessting entry in $TOMCAT_HOME/logs/servlet.log:

Context log path="/examples" :jsp: init
Context log path="/examples" :default: init
Context log path="/reporting" :tomcat.errorPage: init
Context log path="/reporting" :jsp: init
Context log path="/reporting" :default: init
Context log path="/test" :tomcat.errorPage: init
Context log path="/test" :jsp: init
Context log path="/test" :default: init
Context log path="" :tomcat.errorPage: init
Context log path="" :jsp: init
Context log path="" :default: init
Context log path="/examples" :invoker: init
Context log path="/examples" :RequestHeaderExample: init
Context log path="/examples" :RequestParamExample: init
Context log path="/examples" :CookieExample: init
Context log path="/examples" :RequestInfoExample: init
Context log path="/reporting" :invoker: init
Context log path="/reporting" :ReportingServlet: init
Context log path="/reporting" :ReportingServlet: System.out and System.err redirected to log files
Context log path="/reporting" :tomcat.authServlet: init

The entry I mean is the last one. What does 'tomcat.authServlet' do? As you can see my ReportingServlet is initalizing fine (i can also verify this in other log files the servlets writes), but it has problems with processing any request.

Any suggestions would be very helpful!

Best regards from Switzerland,

Hi Arion,

Nope, there is nothing about authentification in $TOMCAT_HOME/webapps/reporting/WEB-INF/web.xml .
Thanks for the info.

Best regards,

Joel

  Hi!
I think you have added authenication to the context in your Context/WEB-INF/web.xml
Check if it is really something you want.
