Re: another SunOS4 problem

Why is

#include <regex.h>

in conf.h? This is totally unnecessary and causes problems when compiling
the support programs (and the 95% of apache that doesn't use regex).
It should be moved to those files that use regex routines.

I can. I can also point out that all regex.h does is (to use Spencer's
one, which is actually longer than, for example, the one on HP-UX)
make 24 defines, define two structs, and prototype three
functions. Hardly a lot, compared to everything else we include in
conf.h and assorted files. And the regex library is neccessary to
Apache - alloc.c, util.c, http_core.c and http_request.c all use it -
hard to compile Apache without it.

I guess I just don't see the problem, except that the support programs
need a real Makefile generated by Configure.

No can do. I tried that, and it doesn't work. util.c and alloc.c need
regex to provide various utility functions, and these functions are
prototyped in httpd.h and alloc.h, which are included by every file
(neccessarily). Since the prototypes for these regex-using functions
need to use regex' data types in their defenition, we need to include
regex.h everywhere.
