Eclipse Galileo and Apache CXF

Hi all,

I had an application developed using the Eclipse Ganymede. This application
has a web service implemented using Apache CXF and run without problems.

Recently, we migrated it to Eclipse Galileo and the web service stoped
working. It doesn't raise any error or exception and apparently runs without
problem. However, the services are not created. Is there someone with the
same problem?

The code used to create de web service is:

JaxWsServerFactoryBean svrFactory = new JaxWsServerFactoryBean();

svrFactory.setServiceClass(Position.class);

svrFactory.setAddress(address);

svrFactory.setServiceBean(implementor);

svrFactory.getInInterceptors().add(new PremfireInterceptor());

svrFactory.create();

The log is:

C:\Program

Files\Java\eclipse-rcp-galileo\plugins\org.eclipse.equinox.launcher_1.0.200.
v20090520.jar

org.apache.cxf.service.factory.ReflectionServiceFactoryBeanbuildServiceFromC

The server is available and the WSDL is returned (
<http://localhost:9000/position?wsdl> http://localhost:9000/position?wsdl)
but the services are not present in the wsdl.

Any help is very welcomed!

Much Thanks!!

Hello,

Thanks for the suggestions. The problem only occurs in the Eclipse Galileo
RCP when the JDK 1.6 is used. After changing the product to use JDK 1.5
(using the Eclipse Galileo RCP), the problem is solved.

Thanks again,

Pedro Oliveira

THAT's a good question.

There are two ways to approach this:

1) Make CXF NOT generate a version number in the bundle manifest. (I'm not

sure how, I couldn't get the Felix bundle plugin to not put a number in so
it
may involve manually maintained manifests or something, maybe patch to
Felix.)
However, that would mean we're basically saying CXF works with any version
of
those packages, which isn't true at all. For example, javax.xml.ws.* MUST
be
2.1.0. Not 2.0.0 or 2.2.0. Thus, having the version number in there is
definitely the correct thing, to me.

Now, SOME of the packages probably could have version numbers removed. I
do
think we work with any version of javax.resource, javax.xml.stream.* (since
there is only one version), javax.annotation (only one version), etc...
If
I could figure Felix bundle to do that, I would. It's really just SAAJ,
JAX-
WS, and JAXB API's that are the major issues.

2) Make Equinox properly export the correct version number, which is what
the
config.ini on the patch does. This IS JDK dependent though. Felix kind

of goes this route in that the bundles are exported with real version
numbers,
not 0.0.0. That's why CXF works fairly well with Felix.

Again, if I could figure out how to get the felix plugin to work better, I'd

update some of it to work "better" and reduce the number of versions needed
in
the equinox config, but, there still would be a few.

Possibly related to:

https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/CXF-2216

Check the properties and stuff listed there.

This may be something we want to document in the faq. Any takers?

Right, so it's an RCP app. Have you attempted to run the application
using Galileo with jdk 1.5? If this works, then the issue will be to do
with some of the capabilities that are included in Java 6, which are
not in Java 5, eg. the JAXB stuff.

Hello Oisin,

Thank you for the reply and I'm sorry for my explanation.

I have an application developed using Eclipse RCP and I have a plug-in to
create the web services (using the code sent in the previous email). This
application has a product definition and is the same in both versions of
Eclipse. Using the Eclipse Ganymede (jdk 1.5) everything works fine, but
when I run the same application using Eclipse Galileo (jdk 1.6) the web
services are not created (they are not present in the WSDL).
The problem occurs when I run the application using the "Launch an Eclipse
application" and when I run the application after exporting it.

If I use the same code but running as a "normal" application (without using
Eclise RCP) it runs without problems.

Pedro - I'm trying to discover if it's actually Eclipse is the
issue.

I'm having some trouble parsing your mail. You've developed
a CXF application using Eclipse Ganymede and it runs successfully
when you do Run As... in the IDE. Is that correct? What choice did
you make after Run As...?

Now, you have recompiled your application using Eclipse Galileo as the
IDE and when you to do Run As... in the IDE the application runs, but
the services are not present in the WSDL. Is this correct?

When you say "the web service stopped working" do you mean it
stopped working but only when your run it in Eclipse? Or it stopped
working even when you run it outside of Eclipse?

Are the Java compiler settings the same in both cases of Eclipse? Are
you running the application using a main() method? Or is it being run
in a container?

It would be helpful if you could list what steps you are taking to run
the application and perhaps provide a short piece of code that is
similar to your application and shows the same behaviour.
