The CMS takes away most of the complexity in SVN, but for those familiar
with SVN some operations are much faster if done through SVN.

Note that you always have the option to work locally in an SVN checkout
of https://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/incubator/ooo/ooo-site/trunk (or a
subdirectory), add and commit files with "svn add" and "svn commit", and
then use the CMS only to publish your changes: just open the
http://www.openoffice.org home page, start the CMS bookmarklet and then
Browse - Update to synchronize from SVN, then publish as usual.

I do like the CMS, but from time to time I find more effective to work
this way, especially if on a slow connection or offline, so I just
shared this tip.

Regards,
   Andrea.

Not a problem...just a mystery! :)

OK, you should be able to navigate to

http://www.openoffice.org/zh-cn/releases

and add your translation -- add a NEW file.

I had to put an empty file in there to get to to work, but at least you
can do this now.

I'll delete n.txt when we finish adding your file.

Re: The translation of AOO3.4.1 release notes and announcement

Posted by Shenfeng Liu <li...@gmail.com>.
Kay,
Thanks very much for your help! I didn't expect it to be such a complex
situation. Sorry for so many troubles brought to you. Hopefully it will be
easier next time...
I saw the folder "releases" in place already through CMS. It is an empty
folder now, so we can not visit it through browser.
Do you think it will work if I submit a new Chinese release notes file
again under this folder, so that you can publish?

Hi again--

I created the "releases" directory yesterday but couldn't get it to
"publish". I'll give you an update later today.

Kay,
Per Rob W's comments, I reversed 3.4.1.html, and created a new one:
zh-cn/3.4.1_rn.html. Please help to process.
  Thanks!

Re: The translation of AOO3.4.1 release notes and announcement

Posted by Shenfeng Liu <li...@gmail.com>.
Kay,
Yes, what imacat posted was the *3.4.1 announcement*. And what Eric
translated and I submitted is the *3.4.1 release notes* in Chinese version.
Originally, I hope to put the translated release notes to
zh-cn/releases/3.4.1.html . But I found I can not create a new directory,
so I just submit it to zh-cn/3.4.1.html.
(I wonder if you can help to create the new folder "releases" and move
3.4.1.html into it? I didn't find the way as anon...)

After the Chinese release notes published, I will update the announcement
imacat created, and let the url of the release notes in the page point to
the new Chinese version.

Hope I made it clear to you. Thanks!

- Shenfeng

OK...I wasn't sure if this was an actual request or just a suggestion.
Maybe I missed a previous e-mail on this.

Because I don't know how works directories in anon online CMS, and earlier
there was problem with dirs, Shenfeng and Eric asked for creation of
directory
releases where 'll be putted "release notes".

In this time they send a new patch for "release notes" which wants to be
putted into
main zh-cn/ directory.

Hello again, Shenfeng and Eric--

Please see:

http://www.openoffice.org/zh-cn/news/aoo341.html

which was created by "imacat" on 23/08/2012.

I would think you would want to make changes to the existing page
instead of creating a new one. Yes?

If these notes are not where you'd like them, then, yes, you could
create a new directory and then maybe move the page to that area.

For example, you can, as Shenfeng's suggests, create a new "releases"
directory/folder under http://www.openoffice.org/zh-cn and then put the
release notes information there.

What do you think?

Hi eric --

Ok, a bit of a problem. Your translation, while good work, is set up to
actually overwrite the current Release Notes in English where they
currently reside, so we will not commit this change.

So, I think what will need to happen is you (or someone) needs to determine
where in/on this new page, your translated release notes will live. Go
there and setup for a new page in an area, and then submit the translation
to that NEW area so you don't overwrite the existing English copy.

I know how to do this in normal svn but I'm not sure how to go about some
of this using the CMS bookmarklet if you want to know the truth.

Maybe someone else can weigh in here.

First, though, maybe some additional coordination about where to locate
this.

I hope this helps.

Eric,
  That's great!
You can find the current AOO 3.4.1 release draft by Kay Schenk in English here: http://www.openoffice.org/development/releases/3.4.1.html . I'm not sure if any further editing will be make on it.

And I think it will be better to put the translation some where under http://www.openoffice.org/zh-cn/ . (Any better suggestion?)

The way should be copy the English release notes to the folder of zh-cn, then translate it into a Chinese version. But currently we are freezing the web waiting for the release, so I guess we can not update the contents directly now. Maybe you can prepare for your translations, and after the release, we can publish it immediately.
  Thanks!

Ok Rob,

your german is horrible (it might be terrible). So I will do the
translation tomorrow morning for you. I'll put your announcement into
notepad++, make the translation and than I'll send it to you.

This is controlled by the following file in SVN:
https://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/incubator/ooo/ooo-site/trunk/content/de/brand.mdtext

If we want a German translation of the announcement then the following
should happen:

1) Someone checks in an HTML translation of the announcement, into
some place under
https://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/incubator/ooo/ooo-site/trunk/content/de/

2) brand.mdtext is updated with new announce, announceurl and announcetip

Note: getting content into SVN can be done several ways:

a) Committers can access directly with svn clients, or the CMS

b) other contributors can use the anonymous interface to the CMS

c) Anyone can also send patches or changes to the list

d) patches can also be attached to Bugzilla issues

Getting the files into the right place is the easy part, and we have
many who can help with this. Even I can do that. Lieder ist mein
Deutsch sehr schlecht. Ich habe Deutsch 25 Jahre fruer studierte aber
habe ganz alles vergessen. Denn brauche ich deine hilfe mit der
Uebersetzung ;-)

Hi Rob,

I can't find a german announcement. On http://www.openoffice.org/de/ I
see a link to an announcement of version 3.4 (announcement in English)
with a link to your announcement of Version 3.4.1 (blog post, also in

I've added a link to the French and Simplified Chinese version, but
not the German one. I don't think we want to get into the habit of
making official announcements on non-Apache websites. That will only
lead to confusion about what is official and what is not. For example,

Thanks, I've committed this to the French site using the naming
conventions currently used there, so
http://www.openoffice.org/fr/AOO_annonce_3_4_1.html

I saw that the zh-cn version is already available at
http://www.openoffice.org/zh-cn/news/aoo341.html
(it's unclear to me if this is imacat's version obtained from zh-tw or
the version supplied by Eric as a CMS contribution).

We also have a German version by Juergen Lange at
http://www.juergen-lange.de/wp1/archives/1799
but I'm not sure whether we prefer to link to his site or obtain
permission from him to republish his article on the official site.

https://blogs.apache.org/OOo/entry/announcing_apache_openoffice_3_41
would need to be edited to link to the following translations:
- French: http://www.openoffice.org/fr/AOO_annonce_3_4_1.html
- Simplified Chinese: http://www.openoffice.org/zh-cn/news/aoo341.html
- German: http://www.juergen-lange.de/wp1/archives/1799
(the last one subject to whether it's OK to link to an external resource

I do not know if it needs committer priviledge. You may post it here
and I can help you update it. (Sorry I make a quick conversion from
Traditional Chinese already. ^^; )

Eric,
AOO 3.4.1 just announced the release. So I want to know if your Chinese
translation is done. Following are the steps you need to follow to submit
your translation.

1. Go to http://www.apache.org/dev/cms.html to install CMS.
2. Go to http://www.openoffice.org/zh-cn/news/ to create new pages using
CMS for the translated release notes and announcement.
3. Since we are not committer, so we just submit our changes, and some
committer will help us to publish.

You can try it and tell us if any question. Thanks!

- Simon

I think what you have is good. Other languages have done similar:
HTML version of the translated announcement, based on the English blog
post.

Eric,
  That's great!
You can find the current AOO 3.4.1 release draft by Kay Schenk in English here: http://www.openoffice.org/development/releases/3.4.1.html . I'm not sure if any further editing will be make on it.

The way should be copy the English release notes to the folder of zh-cn, then translate it into a Chinese version. Eric,
  That's great!
You can find the current AOO 3.4.1 release draft by Kay Schenk in English
here: *http://www.openoffice.org/development/releases/3.4.1.html* . I'm not
sure if any further editing will be make on it.

And I think it will be better to put the translation some where under *
http://www.openoffice.org/zh-cn/* . (Any better suggestion?)

The way should be copy the English release notes to the folder of zh-cn,
then translate it into a Chinese version. But currently we are freezing the
web waiting for the release, so I guess we can not update the contents
directly now. Maybe you can prepare for your translations, and after the
release, we can publish it immediately.
  Thanks!
