[jira] [Created] (LEGAL-569) Converting "Licensed to the Apache Software Foundation" blurbs to SPDX in non-ASF projects

Avi Kivity created LEGAL-569:
--------------------------------

Summary: Converting "Licensed to the Apache Software Foundation" blurbs to SPDX in non-ASF projects
                 Key: LEGAL-569
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/LEGAL-569
             Project: Legal Discuss
          Issue Type: Question
          Components: Policy Question
            Reporter: Avi Kivity

I am using ASF code in an open-source project (that is not an ASF project). I'd like to replace the license blurb with a short SPDX reference.

I'm seeking guidance about whether this is allowed. My concern is if I replace the blurb with an SPDX comment, I remove information (that the code was licensed to the ASF under a CLA). What can I do here?

 # replace the blurb with an SPDX comment
 # replace the blurb, and add a short comment for the other information (what?)
 # replace the blurb, and add information to the NOTICE file
 # keep the blurb as is

Guidance is appreciated.
