PrintEco - Does it work with OpenOffice/LibreOffice?

Hello,

I just heard of PrintEco - http://printecosoftware.com/ - a nifty*
utility that effectively compresses printouts so you can save paper.
(You can always still opt for the original printout in any case.)

It's made for the Microsoft Office Suite** - Does it also work with
OpenOffice/LibreOffice?

[*] And, for individual users, free on a limited basis.

[**] And also IE and Firefox, for printouts of webpages.

Thank you very much, and enjoy your weekend!

No it is not.

It´s quite handy, actually, and it had a better print preview than
windows´ own, back in the days of WIn95-98, and do all sorts of
post-processing on the print job *before* sending it to printer, ie
removing stuff, printing "odd pages between 2 and 30", etc

Yes, some software does the same job as other software, but you pay
for the ease of use. In other words, just because there´s a LaTex
doesn´t mean there isn´t a market for OpenOffice.

Or, in this case, for Gnome/CUPS to offer the same degree of
fine-tuning and ease of use that Fineprint provides...

It is the same as I have written before! It intercept printer commands
because "printing of empty pages" can be un/set in the printer command.

Reducing the size of the pages from A4 to A5 can I set in my printer
dialog too...

For me it is simple scamware because it let users think, they (the
brainless users) need it.

Maybe THE "users" should learn to use there brain?

Really old old old concept. 12 years ago I used to use Fine Print
(still available, and now supports xp-vista-7) to preview print jobs,
eliminate unwanted pages, reduce size (print four ´a5´ ´small booklet
format´ pages per A4 sheet), and save paper and ink.

Oh, and it works system-wide on *any* app that can print.
Just FYI...

How do they reduce the Pages printed?

Long time ago, when I was forced to use M$ Ware, it was definitively not
the quality I like to see. ANd if you print from M$ Office, how can
they reduce the pages?

Does it print two pages per side and duplex? I can do this too in my
printer dialog since I print per month >5000 PDF pages of technical
documentation... which results in only 1250 sheets.

> Do you know whether it works with LibreOffice/OpenOffice? That's my

unfortunately not, since I do not more use Windows...

> Finally, by "5c4m 50ftw4r3" do you mean that it's some sort of scam?
> If so, what's your evidence for that assertion?

Most software I have seen for Windows in the last 2o years, do things,
which are already there, but sometimes a little bit hidden (because the
funktionality is NOT important for most users) and it is hard to find,
exspecialy for Windows click users which refuse to use there brain,
because they think, M$ does it right...

So, in clear, there are "enterprises" which sell so called software,
which is generaly only a GUI (Graphical User Interface) which set some
options in the registry... not more!
...and then they sell it as "there own software" expensive.

Note: I do the same under GNU/Linux by using a Shell Script and the
Tool Xdialog where I can make some settings and the script call
the right tool. Not more and not less! I use only existion
tools whitout programming big things... It requires only to
read carefully some HOWTOs and Manualpages.

Qestion of the day: How many OOo users (in percent) do you
think, have read the Manual of OOo?

This is the reason, WHY some commercials make the big money and
get rich and you stay as slave in there enterprise!

Hello Michelle,

When I say compress, I mean PrintEco reduces the number of pages
printed - and that's what the software is for.

Do you know whether it works with LibreOffice/OpenOffice? That's my
only question here.

Finally, by "5c4m 50ftw4r3" do you mean that it's some sort of scam?
If so, what's your evidence for that assertion?

Cheers!

It does not compress, but reduce the resolution down to 150x150dpi
and reduce the brightness... Thats all. It is nothing which you
can not set in your printer dialog by default...

If it´s a tool that intercepts print jobs and modifies them BEFORE the
print jobs are sent to the Windows print spooler, then YES; it shuold
work with ANY windows application that can print.

That is the way I´d design such app anyway. If, instead, it s
piggy-backed on MS Office then OF COURSE it WON´T WORK.
