The benefit of using custom tag?

I'm a newbie about struts.
Although my question is valueless, please answer my question. ^^

Today, I found there are some custom tags for HTML FORM and Javascript event handler rendering in struts. I cannot understantd what is the benefit of using custom tags instead of direct FORM and Javascript tagging now. Tell me the benefit of using custom tag..
