Protected spreadsheet

Hi.

My spreadsheet, which I have never knowingly 'protected' can no longer
be used, selected or edited.

I have looked up your help page on Protection/Unprotection which suggests
clicking on the sheet in question, selecting Tools from the menu, then
Protect Document. So far OK. But both options - Sheet and Document are
greyed out, so are not available.

What other options do I have for editing this spreadsheet, which at the
moment is useless ?

Thanks for your help

John Sumner

Open Office 4.1.1

Did you have a computer or program crash? If so, there may be a lock file left on your computer. This is a housekeeping file which is created to prevent two instances accessing the same file; it is normally erased when the program is closed, but if there is a crash it can be left and may make the next opening of the file be readonly. Such files are hidden, so to see them you have to enable "viewing of hidden files". How this is done depends on the operating system. These files have a name similar to .~lock.filename.odt#
