Re: [axis2] [VOTE][PROPOSAL] ServiceLifecycle interface
vs. introspecting methods

It's the other way around, for most of the devs I hang with anyway. You
do "implements ServiceLifecycle" and *then* you hit a hotkey in your IDE
which automagically implements the interface methods for you (aahh
tools!). That way you're guaranteed to get it right.

The people we're "forcing" in that case would be the early adopters who
are already doing this the old way, not anyone who's newly implementing
- but it's a fair point.

Of course this is a VOTE not a code change so it's a non-veto -1. :)
Curious - would you acquiesce if the vote ends up in favor, or would you
actually veto a commit if one occurred?

Roger that.

Here's the tally of this vote after 6 days.
+1 Glen
+1 Azeez
+0 Deepal
+1 Dims

As such the proposal passed with a 4/1 majority. Resolved in
http://svn.apache.org/viewvc?view=rev&rev=549086, which closes out
https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/AXIS2-2785.

Re: [axis2] [VOTE][PROPOSAL] ServiceLifecycle interface vs. introspecting methods

How about this.
We preserve the service impl class as it is, and allow ppl to associate the
a ServiceLifecycle implementation with a particular service using a service
level parameter in the services.xml file;
i.e. <parameter name="service.lifecycle.class">
com.xyz.service.MyServiceLifecycle</parameter>
Now the POJOness of the service impl class is preserved, and we could also
handle lifecycle related Axis2 specific implementations outside the actual
POJO which will contain only the relevant biz logic.
Thoughts?

No way; but I assume that your commit would be a function of this VOTE ..
and since this is an API change consensus is needed to go forward IMO.
So far we have 3 people's opinions. I'd like to see many more thoughts
before we decide one way or the other.
