Question about choosing a variable value at random

I'm writing a test plan where I have a predefined set of values and I
would like to choose one at random and use it as an http parameter.  For
example, I want to choose randomly from (dog, fish, cat) and use it in my
url

http://localhost/myapp/search.jsp?term=dog|fish|cat

It sounds simple but I can't quite figure out the best way to do it.  I
see the regex extractor, and random controller and csv data set but ....
