Makes perfect sense, there is also SLING-7 which is about parsing the CND file ourselves and applying definition by definition and better handle issues like duplicate types or required re-registration.
In fact, I would even make the setting "reregister:=true" the default.

I haven't looked at the jackrabbit jcr commons stuff yet, but I think the cnd parser etc. has moved there. Using that stuff would unbind us from jackrabbit.

Yeah, in my JR 2 branch, this is implemented with jackrabbit-jcr-commons.
reregister:=true is my preference for the default as well.
