Summary: Freeze during FTP connect (Commons Net 1-4-0)
           Product: Commons
           Version: 1.4 Final
          Platform: Other
        OS/Version: Linux
            Status: NEW
          Keywords: JDK1.4
          Severity: normal
          Priority: P2
         Component: Net
        AssignedTo: commons-dev@jakarta.apache.org
        ReportedBy: thomasgt96-java@yahoo.com

Several times a day a Java process open FTP connections (using Commons Net) and
some times (approximately twice a week) the process hang until I kill it.
By looking at the dump it seems the lock appears during the connection opening
but I have no clue why it happens.

Here are the information I have :

-------------------------------
FTP client :
- OS "Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES release 3 (Taroon Update 2)"
- Java j2sdk1.4.2_05

FTP server on windows

-------------------------------

Thread dump get through kill -3 on java process :

------- Additional Comments From rwinston@eircom.net 2006-11-28 01:42 -------
If you are in a position to test with JDK 5.0, you could try the new snapshot:

http://people.apache.org/~rwinston/commons-net-2.0/commons-net-ftp-2.0.0-SNAPSHOT.jar

Which should fix it. Let me know if you are in a position to test this.

I have also encountered this issue on Windows with version 1.4.1 and SUN JVM
