+**Base** is een volledige desktop-database managementsysteem, ontworpen om
+tegemoet te komen aan de behoefte van een brede groep gebruikers, van

+ - het bijhouden van een persoonlijke CD collectie, tot
+ - het produceren van een zakelijke maandelijkse verkooprapportage.
+
+**Base** beschikt over wizards om nieuwe gebruikers van databases (of gebruikers die voor het eerst
+**Base** gebruiken) te helpen bij het maken van Tabellen, Query's, Formulieren en Rapporten, met een set
+voorgedefinieerde tabbellen voor het bijhouden van Eigendommen, Klanten, Verkopen,
+Facturen en nog veel meer.

+Als een database voor persoonlijk gebruik toereikend is, beschikt **Base** over een volledige HSQL
+relationele database, geconfigureerd voor één gebruiker, waar de gegevens direct worden opgeslagen
+in het **Base**-bestand, maar ook over ingebouwde ondersteuning voor platte dBase bestanden.
+
+Voor veeleisende zakelijk gebruikers, beschikt **Base** over eigen drivers voor
+een diversiteit van multi-user databases: MySQL, Adabas D, MS Access en
+PostgreSQL. Aanvullende hierop, zorgen de JDBC en ODBC standaard drivers ervoor dat
+er een verbinding gemaakt kan worden met vrijwel elke bestaande database.

+**Base** integreert naadloos met de overige onderdelen van het Apache OpenOffice pakket,
+bijvoorbeeld:

+ - het aanleveren van adresboekgegevens voor samenvoegen in WRITER gebruik makend van
+ het standaard LDAP-protocol, of veelvoorkomende adresboekformaten zoals Microsoft
+ Outlook, Microsoft Windows en Mozilla;
+ - het maken van gekoppelde gegevensgebieden in CALC-bestanden voor analyses of als

+*Voer vergelijkingen en formules in voor in documenten*
+
+**Math** is de Apache OpenOffice component voor wiskundige vergelijkingen. Het wordt meestal
+gebruikt als een invoermethode voor vergelijkingen in tekstdocumenten, maar het kan ook gebruikt worden
+met andere documenttypes of gewoon op zichzelf. Bij gebruik in **Writer**, wordt
+de vergelijking gezien als een object binnen het tekstdocument. Op dezelfde wijze is het
+mogelijk om ze in andere Apache OpenOffice programma's in te voegen zoals [Calc][1] en
+[Impress][2].
+
+Gebruik makend van **Math**, zijn er drie manieren om een formule in te voeren:
+
+- Het typen van markup in de formule-editor.
+- Rechts-klikken op de formule-editor en kies het symbool in het contextmenu.
+- Selecteer een symbool uit de *Selectie* gereedschapskist.
