Caldera Openlinux 2.2.5.  Out of box (no patches). gcc compiler

I have seen all of the docs stating to add -lcrypt to the EXTRA_LIBS in
 the configure file, and have tried that, and it gives me 
/usr/i38-linux/bin/ld: cannot open -lcrypt: No such file or directory

Do I need to download the latest glibc?
