+1 for rapid releases as well… even if only to add more examples, documentation, and more testing to new features.

Re: [RESULT] [VOTE] Release Apache Storm 1.0.0 (rc2)

Posted by "P. Taylor Goetz" <pt...@gmail.com>.
I agree, lets potentially look at releasing 1.0.1 potentially next week.

I’m going to be largely out of pocket this week, but should be back in earnest next week.

And to clarify release votes are Majority Approval and can’t be vetoed (3 binding +1s and more +1s than -1s). That being said, I don’t like releasing with -1s either (whether binding or not), but in this case I think it was warranted to not to cancel the release. I think for the 1.x branch, we should expect to have a lot of rapid point releases (1.0.x) to address issues as they come up.

As a side note Zhuo went to go work for Apple, and I am not sure how much if any time he will be able to spend on Storm going forward.

We may like to weigh the priority of STORM-1696, and if we still think it's
a blocker, let's work to make 1.0.1 happens ASAP.

Re: [RESULT] [VOTE] Release Apache Storm 1.0.0 (rc2)

Posted by Jungtaek Lim <ka...@gmail.com>.
There's one blocker issue STORM-1696
<https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/STORM-1696> from Zhuo Liu, but he
didn't vote the release so vote is not canceled.

We may like to weigh the priority of STORM-1696, and if we still think it's
a blocker, let's work to make 1.0.1 happens ASAP.

Thanks,
Jungtaek Lim (HeartSaVioR)

Lets get a 1.0.1 out ASAP to address Abhishek's concerns.  I don't like seeing a -1 from anyone on an official release.

Re: 答复: [VOTE] Release Apache Storm 1.0.0 (rc2)

Posted by Xin Wang <da...@gmail.com>.
+1 (Non binding)

- testing with source distribution(built using `mvn -P all-tests clean
install`) : OK
- testing with binary distribution (one machine) : OK
  - launch daemons : OK
  - run RollingTopWords (local) : OK
  - run RollingTopWords (remote) : OK
    - activate / deactivate / rebalance / kill : OK
    - logviewer (worker dir, daemon dir) : OK
    - change log level : OK
    - log search : OK
    - thread dump, heap dump, restart worker : OK

I found links in `bin/storm.py` are unavailable, but I don't think it is a
blocker.

BTW, I field a JIRA(STORM-1658) for improving and fixing documents(these
will be published to asf site).

Great work, Thanks everyone!

Re: 答复: [VOTE] Release Apache Storm 1.0.0 (rc2)

Posted by Abhishek Agarwal <ab...@gmail.com>.
-1 (Non binding) on account of
https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/STORM-1693
'mvn clean install' - OK
Topology submission/kill/activate/deactivate - OK
thread dump - OK
log search - OK (by the way, really helpful feature)

If others have run their topologies for a while, and are not hitting
STORM-1693, it can be considered as non-blocker.

ps. Found minor issues which I think they shouldn’t block releasing. Will
raise issues when reproducible.

  - Process is not shutting down clearly in local mode, but ‘Ctrl + C’ can
  terminate the process.
  - when searching keyword in /logviewer_search.html with daemon log file,
is-daemon=yes parameter is gone so search shows no result.
      - it works with /daemonlog, but since result page is
/logviewer_search.html, user’s next search will failed.
  - When testing, build always fails on co-working space, cause logged
host ip in console log was not the ip my dev machine was assigned. I
expected private IP but logged ip seems to be public ip. Worker even try to
connect to <public ip>:1024 and <public ip>:1025 which ports are also not
  expected.

With the default configs everything seems to work fine.  I have run into a few issues with not being able to set storm.workers.artifacts.dir, but I don't think it is a blocker.

Re: [VOTE] Release Apache Storm 1.0.0 (rc2)

- testing with source distribution : OK
  - unzip : OK
  - building from source dist : OK
    - how to build: running `mvn -P all-tests clean install` on unzipped
source dist.

- testing with binary distribution (one machine) : OK
  - launch daemons : OK
  - run RollingTopWords (local) : OK
  - run RollingTopWords (remote) : OK
    - activate / deactivate / rebalance / kill : OK
    - logviewer (worker dir, daemon dir) : OK
    - change log level : OK
    - thread dump, heap dump, restart worker : OK
    - log search : OK
  - run WordCountTopology (remote) : OK
    - multiple workers and multi-lang bolt

Amazing works everyone.
Please note that we should check the site and fix the docs before
announcing release. I saw some broken links today so I'll open another
thread to check and fix them.

Thanks,

Worker even try to
connect to <public ip>:1024 and <public ip>:1025 which ports are also not
   expected.
