OPENING A FILE

I purchased a new computer about 2 years ago an HP Pavilion g6 with Win 8. It did not have a descent word processor so I downloaded your Open Office. When Win 10 came out I downloaded that . Last week I found that when I click on a fiie, especially an Open Office file, I am presented with a choice of about 6-8 apps to open the file. These include Adobe, Int Explorer, movie maker, notepad, paint and several others . None of them worked to open a file. I went to Microsoft today and they said to go to Open Office. So I am here.

Are you familiar with this and if so how do I correct it? I have has no trouble with Open Office until now. Thank you. Do I need to up grade my Open Office with Win 10?

Well as the problem is not restricted to OpenOffice files and the
problem occurred after the upgrade to Windows 10
Microsoft should have assisted you.

Open the Control Panel and select Programs, then select Default Programs
there you find different ways to set the
Default Program, you probably have to set it by File Type.
