Can I get the "shared" classes reloaded when . . .
.. . . they change (classes within %CATALINA_HOME%\shared\classes)
without downing Tomcat. Here's my specific proplem: I have a dozen
contexts that all share "common" classes from from
%CATALINA_HOME%\shared\classes. One of the contexts, "db", takes about
5 minutes to "init" (creates conections and does a lot of "first time"
type setup) so I don't want to down the servlet/context "db" if it's at
all possible to avoid it. Back to my question. Is it possible to
reload the classes from %CATALINA_HOME\shared\classes that have been
changed since Tomcat was started without taking Tomcat down?
Thanks,
James

The short answer is: no. The shared CL is meant for relatively stable code
(e.g. JSTL). Also, there is no sensible way for Tomcat to track changes in
shared without reloading all contexts (which is pretty much a
shutdown/startup).
I'm guessing (from the use of '%' and '\') that you are using a Windows box.
On a *nix box, I'd suggest configuring Tomcat to follow soft-links, and
soft-link your classes into the contexts that need them.
