Problem with starting OO 4.1.3 and OO 4.1.4
G'day Users.
Late today OO 4.1.3 could not be started directly or by clicking documents
that use OO.
Attempting to update to 4.1.4 brought the notice attached below as the
installer started on its last step of installation.
OO 4.1.3 was then removed entirely as were the OO 4.1.4 installation files -
the Asus laptop using Vista was restarted, OO 4.1.4 re-downloaded and a
re-installation re-attempted.
Again, the final step of installion was interrupted by the same attached
message.
Any suggestion or help will be very welcome.

Hi Miles,
The message tells you the problem is that the "Quickstarter" (the core
service of the software) is running in the background. The installer
cannot update a program that is still running.
Solution: Find the "Quickstarter" icon in the taskbar system tray, right
click on it and select "Exit" from the pop-up menu.
If the install still fails to complete, right click on a clear space in
the taskbar and select "Start Task Manager" from the pop-up menu. When
the "Task Manager" window opens click the "Processes" tab. Look for and
click anything with the name "soffice", then click and confirm with the
"End Process" button.

I overlooked the subject line of your message.
Where did you get version 4.1.4 ? The latest publicly available released
version is 4.1.3
If you obtained this 4.1.4 "thing" from anywhere other than
http://www.openoffice.org/download/index.html be very careful to ensure
that you are not installing a fake program with a malware payload.

hello.
if you installed openoffice by default and typical installation, you
can use the installer file again.
open the installer file, select modify and also uncheck the quick start.

end I am not sure, but once I tried tidying up my hard drive with Norton
another try at installation of OO 4.1.3 went like a dream.
