[jira] Commented: (HADOOP-3495) Support legacy S3 buckets containing underscores

    [ https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/HADOOP-3495?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=12636242#action_12636242 ]

David Phillips commented on HADOOP-3495:
----------------------------------------

Perhaps I'm misunderstanding the issue, but why not use the URL method instead of the virtual hosting method? For example, use {{http://s3.amazonaws.com/foo/}} instead of {{http://foo.s3.amazonaws.com/}}. I don't see any advantages to using the virtual hosting method (in this context).

> For bucket names containing an underscore we fail with an exception, however it should be possible to support them. See proposal in https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/HADOOP-930?focusedCommentId=12601991#action_12601991 by Chris K Wensel.
