ECS Plugin for Eclipse?
Hi,
I have developed a plug-in for the Eclipse Platform
that enables ECS to be run inside Eclipse.
(kind of like the Xerxes or Tomcat plug-ins
that ship with Eclipse)
Would you like such a plugin on the Jakarta
site, or do you have no space (or time) for it?
The plugin is Open Source as its core component
(ECS) is, too and it does not (yet) do a lot beyond
exposing ECS's functionality.
If you are not interested or unable to host it I might
have to put it on SourceForge or keep it on my own
site (kind of like Sysdeo's Tomcat Plugin)
Just wanted to ask you in case you would like to host
it.
Best Regards,
Werner Keil

Eclipse, is an editor www.eclipse.org I believe it is the foundation for
IBM's WAS product. I don't have a problem with adding it to the ecs
distribution but contrib.'s is probably a better place for it. I haven't
played around with eclipse much what does the plugin actually add to
eclipse, and is it somewhere I can get to it to give it a try?

i'm not very familiar with Eclipse so please keep my ignorance in mind...

jakarta has plenty of space but time is always precious :)
of more importance is where the best home for this code is going to be.

it would be possible for this kind of code to be included in a contribs
section - but it would be a fair amount of work. so, i'd like you to have
a think about whether it's the best home before .
contribs tend to work best as a home for mature code.
by contributing the code, you'd be turning over ownership (and control).
the copyright for all code at jakarta is owned by the Apache Software
Foundation and is distributed under the Apache License.
if you see yourself actively developing the code further, then a
sourceforge project might work better for you. if you end up developing a
suite of eclipse plug-ins then you'll probably find it easier to build a
community over there than here at jakarta and you'd have greater control
over your project.
