hadoop cluster metrics

Are there any good hadoop cluster metrics to check things like job run time or other metrics using the contents of the /var/log/hadoop/history/done log files?

I am thinking I need to write a simple script to parse these to get job timings to keep and eye on job run times but I am sure other people are doing this already.  Don't want to reinvent the wheel.
