sent messages count is always 0

Hi, I am new to Giraph.
I tried the page rank benchmark and the "sent messages" counter remains 0,
always.
https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/GIRAPH-42 touches this problem: "The
MapReduce counter 'Sent Messages' doesn't work".
So I got interested in this, followed the Giraph code, and I think I found
the cause, and submitted a fix + test as a patch in that issue.
It's been a few days now with no comment on this, so I perhaps I am missing
a step in the patch-submission process.
