   @ulysses-you @cloud-fan @dongjoon-hyun  we are finding this feature useful to try out optimizations.  It would be nice to have in the older spark branches (like 3.3) so it could be used sooner.  Does anyone have objections if we backport this?  It seems like its a fairly small change that shouldn't be to risky.
