TEZ-2294 might be a good starting point for you to look. It has configs generated from close to the 0.7 release but most should be applicable to your query.

For all general purposes, Tez does *not* support any MapReduce variables. However, there are some helper functions that Hive/Pig use to convert MR configs to Tez configs. Good point on the MR configs though - I will look to see if there is a way to document this mapping more clearly.
