Recording/Streaming Apache Tika Virtual Meetings to YouTube

Hello press@,
The Tika community held its first virtual tagup today. With the goal of
archiving and making available the meeting content to those not able to
attend, we wanted to enquire about the possibility of recording/streaming
future virtual meetings to YouTube...
Is this something you could give us advice on?
Thank you

Our conferences platform (Hopin - where we ran ApacheCon) is ideal for things that look like conferences - multi-presentation, possibly multi-day. There are tools for "audience" interaction, but it is primarily a presenter/audience dynamic.

Which is not a "no", but that 1) it might not be the right tool for a community meeting and 2) it might not be cost-effective for a monthly/weekly meeting kind of scenario. Each "event" is a standalone thing, and each iteration of the meeting would have to be created, separately, as an "event", and people would have to register for *that* event. That is, each person has to register (and I have to pay) each week/month.

+1; thank you, Bertrand.

If memory serves me correctly, we recently hosted a Cassandra event using our Hopin account. The turnout was more than 4x than anticipated.

Here's hoping you'll have a great Tika community event! Once you have the recordings, we'll be happy to help post to the ASF's YouTube channel.

I think this is changing, our conferences team might soon be able to
provide conferencing services for projects to host virtual events.

Lewis, I suggest you get in touch with planners@apachecon.com for more
info about that.

Lewis,
Thank you for getting the ball rolling on this. I think it would be
great to have semi-regular meetings of devs and/or community outreach.
For example, I'd like to host an outreachy, tika-eval deep dive for
[1]. I can think of a few other outreachy topics, especially around
migrating to 2.x.
Any objections if I started a Meetup group? Did we ever settle on a platform?

     Cheers,

It IS a community meetup participants actively engage in and trade
conversation and opinions. So it sounds like YouTube live is not the
correct solution.

The meeting was hosted on a paid version of WebEx. It would be great if we
could move away from this for the next meeting.

Hi Lewis,
To go with YouTube live or not is totally depends on the nature of our meetup.
If it is a community meetup where the participant has active
involvement in conversation, we should not go for YouTube live.

If you are having the meetup in conference style, where a presenter is
delivering the session, it might make sense to go YouTube live but
again, it will bring some more work, management and extra tools to be
used.
One of the popular tool used for live streams is Streamyard. You can
find more details here [1].
There are various plans available to it, including the free tier.

By the way, which tool community used for the last meeting (Zoom,
Google meet or something else)?

[1] https://streamyard.com/

P.S. Like you, I will also prefer maintaining the recordings outside
of YouTube and then uploading them on YouTube.
Still, please free to explore Streamyard and discuss with the
organizing committee. Let me know if you need my assistance.

Swapnil M Mane,

Perfect; thanks for the clarification, Lewis.

What we've done in the past is help post recordings to the ASF YouTube channel.

I suspect that Swapnil may have suggestions on how to best go about that if the PMC needs help.

Best,
Sally

Thanks for the info. Ive never live-streamed to YT before. I think that
maintaining the recordings outside of YT and merely uploading them there
would be preferred.
Thank you

Hi Lewis --popping out of the blindcopy here.

If the PMC has the recordings, we'll be able to upload to the ASF YouTube channel.

We don't offer recording or editing services, in case that's what you're seeking. There are different methods and products that allow one to record from a YouTube live streaming session, but YouTube doesn't provide the ability to record.

I suspect that Swapnil may have some advice as to how to best go about that, as well as the possibility to live stream from the ASF account.

Hope this helps,
Sally

Excellent Sally, moving you and press@ to Bcc

Kenneth, Swapnil please let me know the logistics here. Our next proposed
meeting is this time next month just to give you an idea. Maybe this is too
tight for us to arrange?

Thanks for your consideration.

Hello, Lewis --yes, of course we can help.

I'm copying Kenneth Paskett and Swapnil Mane from Central Services who will be able to help you with this when you're ready.

Many thanks in advance Kenneth and Swapnil for your help with this!
