The Apache OpenNLP team released 1.5.3, cTAKES should update to the new version  which mainly fixes bugs and adds a few new features, the release was carefully tested to ensure it performs just as well as 1.5.2-incubating.

In the new version the Sentence Detector supports user defined EOS chars which might be suitable to replace the cTAKES customization for this.
