url validator

is there a standard url validator out there? if not will there be? i
know i could probably use the pattern validator but it seems like
something that might be done already.

Well, there is

   org.apache.tapestry.valid.UrlValidator

but it has no Tapestry 4.0 equivalent yet, if that's what you're looking 
for.
