Adam, the [code is there|http://logging.apache.org/log4j/2.x/log4j-core/xref/org/apache/logging/log4j/core/lookup/Log4jLookup.html] but I suspect that {{LoggerContext.getConfigLocation()}} sometimes returns null. Not sure why or when this would happen. A better implementation may be to use {{LoggerContext.getConfiguration().getConfigurationSource().getFile()}}.
Can you attach a small program that reproduces the issue to help with the investigation? (Actually, would you mind raising a separate Jira ticket for this bug and attaching it there?)
